Research exchanges allow pairs of individuals and small groups to work together toward GIN goals of integrating ecological and evolutionary hypotheses for invasions. The RCN can provide partial support, as outlined below.

How to propose an exchange

Proposal

Write up a brief (e.g. 1-2 paragraphs) description of the proposed exchange including how the experience links to the GIN RCN goals and outline the budget.  Email the request to Ruth Hufbauer (hufbauer@lamar.colostate.edu).  The steering committee will review the proposal, and respond within a month.  We should have funds for all labs to participate in an exchange.  Additional exchanges will be approved based on merit and available remaining funds.

In general, we are able to pay airfare up to $500 for domestic and $1,200 for international travel, with $100/diem for domestic exchanges, and $125/diem for international exchanges. We can support travel for people working in the U.S. and people from less industrialized nations.  Unfortunately, we can not support airfare for people from western Europe, Austraila and other industrialized nations, but we can provide per diem if other funds pay the airfare.

Pre-exchange Requirements

At least two weeks prior to embarking on a research exchange, email Ruth a short blurb about it including names of participants and goals for the exchange.  This will be posted on the Events page of the website.

Post-exchange Requirements

Within two weeks of participating in a research exchange, you must provide Ruth with a half-page summary of the outcome and accomplishments of the exchange.  Additionally, publications resulting in whole or part from work conducted while engaged in the exchange should acknowledge the RCN support.  When submitted, you should notify Ruth so that she can include the information in annual updates to NSF, and when published a pdf should be sent to Ruth.
